There’s no coming back from extinction

Sen. Rand Paul (KY) and Sen. Dean Heller (NV) have introduced a bill that would remove protections from endangered species after only five years. In addition, if they have their way it would take a vote by the full Congress to add protections for new species, and even then, any governor could just decide that it doesn’t apply to their state. Even worse, the bill blocks any review by the courts. Saving species needs to rely on science not politics!

Gray wolves, grizzly bears, and more than a thousand other species rely on the protections of the Endangered Species Act just to survive. Since it became law in 1973, the Endangered Species Act has successfully kept 98% of species under its protection from going extinct.

This is a dangerous proposal that could have consequences we can never take back.

That’s why we need you tell your senators to defend the Endangered Species Act.
