2017 is shaping up to be the 2nd hottest year on record for our planet, behind only 2016. However, instead of taking action to safeguard our communities from climate change, President Trump is taking us in the wrong direction.

We need to do more in your state to pick up the slack.

Your governor has a huge opportunity right now to speed our progress. Within a matter of weeks, your governor and eight other governors will be deciding how fast to cut pollution from power plants across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic through 2030.

To make this decision as strong as possible, we need to tell your governor to be ambitious.

With President Trump sitting on the sidelines of the fight against climate change, now is a golden opportunity for you to lead. 
 
I am counting on you to take concrete, bold and ambitious steps to cut dangerous carbon pollution -- starting with strengthening the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.
 
Over the past decade, our state has worked with our neighbors through this program to cut power plant pollution in half and invest billions in clean energy.
 
You can make this great program even better by setting a stronger limit on pollution through 2030. As you finalize your decision, please aim to cut power plant pollution in half again -- or more -- by 2030. We need to be at zero emissions within the next two decades. 
 
The U.S. Conference of Mayors this year voted in favor of American cities transitioning to 100 percent renewable electricity by 2035. That is a good benchmark for the level of ambition I'd like to see from you, as well.
