Submit your public comment: Stop oil and gas development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

In 2017, Congress opened the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. Referred to as "The Sacred Place Where Life Begins" by the indigenous Gwich'in tribe, the refuge is home to incredible wildlife including endangered polar bears, the 200,000 strong Porcupine caribou herd, and millions of migratory birds.

With the Arctic warming three times faster than anywhere else on the planet, more oil and gas development is the last thing we need. The time to protect this special place is now. Send a message to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) telling them to keep the Arctic safe from oil drilling.

I oppose all oil and gas activities on the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Trump administration rushed headlong into leasing the area at the expense of science and sound process -- as showcased by the release of a deeply flawed Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The EIS ignored or understated every type of impact that drilling will have on the Arctic Refuge, including: failing to estimate how many polar bears will be killed or harmed, underestimating climate change impacts, refusing to do a quantitative analysis of air quality impacts, failing to analyze impacts of the water demands of drilling, and overlooking the high probability of significant oil spills.

Drilling in the Arctic Refuge would damage the habitat of wolves, muskoxen, Arctic foxes, wolverines, polar bears, and countless species of birds that call it home. Drilling in the Arctic Refuge would also damage the rapidly shrinking denning grounds of one of the world's most imperiled polar bear populations. And finally, President Biden has committed the U.S. to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030. Drilling in the Arctic Refuge undermines that commitment.

I urge you to conduct a full scientific review and I believe that any valid scientific review will show that oil and gas activities on the Coastal Plain will have destructive impacts on Arctic Refuge wildlife and habitat and on the climate.
