Environment America and our coalition partners are suing the Trump administration for failing to follow the law in its rush to allow drilling in the Arctic.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge hosts one of the most spectacular wildlife migrations in the world: some 200,000 caribou migrate hundreds of miles to reach the refuge, millions of migratory birds flock there, polar bears and cubs den on the coastal plain. But the Trump administration is pushing to open up the refuge to drilling for oil and gas.

In the rush to lease the land for drilling, the final environmental impact statement process -- a study of the potential environmental effects of drilling in the area that usually takes two or three years -- was compressed into just over one year, and failed to fully consider the environmental impacts of oil and gas drilling operations, including to wildlife. A rushed and incomplete process creates more harm than necessary -- and it's against the law.

That's why Environment America and our coalition partners are challenging it in court.
